You ever make a to-do list and you put everything you need to get done on that list, well is checking on friends and family a thing on your to-do list?
I admit most of my to-do lists never get finished, not even halfway but I don’t just put small things on my lists. Checking on my friends especially the ones I don’t live near or haven’t talked to in a while is a point on my to-do lists. I feel it is very important to have the point on my lists. Even if I may not get to it the day I make my lists, the important thing is, it’s on the list and I remind myself that everyone needs checking on.
I recently had a friend check on me as I sent a message to check on them and it was cute. It shows you care about each other and that even with having different lives you still remember them, concerned for how their life blossoms.
With thanksgiving so close this really reminded me that I should reach out more, and not just because of the holidays but because checking up on your friends even from a time ago can be what they need. Or even what you need without realizing it. Which in my case it was what I needed. I needed to talk to an old friend, reminding me of some good times we had. Also because they are blunt and will tell me when I need to get over it or if I had a right to be upset. They were my confirmation or slap in the face, with a few laughs.
Start writing those letter, sending those emails or pick up the phone and call someone. A simple ear to listen and a soft voice of advice can go a long way.
P.S. never stop smiling!
